Virtual Program Examining Reparations

Tuesday, February 22, 6:30 pm (CST)

American society is currently engaged in a long overdue reckoning about racism, including how to right past racial injustice. As cities and states explore the concept of reparations for Black Americans, many point to the precedent of Holocaust reparations. What can we learn from the debates about payments from Germany in the aftermath of the Holocaust? Do Holocaust reparations offer a blueprint, and what might the differences be for us to consider? Are we able to repair injustice retroactively?

Join us for a moderated discussion with Stefan Cristian Ionescu, Theodore Zev and Alice R. Weiss-Holocaust Educational Foundation Visiting Associate Professor in Holocaust Studies at Northwestern University; Kamm Howard, Chicago businessman and reparations activist; and kihana miraya ross, Assistant Professor of African American Studies at Northwestern University & and recipient of a Spencer Foundation grant to study new reparations and policies as they unfold in real-time. Museum Vice President of Education & Exhibitions, Kelley Szany, will moderate the discussion.

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination & masks are required to attend on-site programs.
