Mengele: Unmasking the "Angel of Death"

Thursday, August 19, 6:30 pm Central Time

By the end of the of the Holocaust, Josef Mengele, a once sworn doctor to help and heal, had universally cemented his reputation in the eyes of many as the embodiment of pure unadulterated evil. The failure to capture and enact justice only increased Mengele’s reputation and created a cult-like following, even more so after his death. As one of the most notorious Nazi fugitives, Mengele died with a myriad of unanswered questions and later became the thesis of countless psychiatric studies, essays, and books.

As a former chief of investigative research at the Justice Department’s Office of Special Investigations in the 1980s, Dr. David Marwell, distinguishes his latest book Mengele: Unmasking the “Angel of Death” by relying upon his years involved in the search for Mengele. Marwell, a historian and leader of several government and nonprofit institutions, interviewed several of Mengele’s victims, visited crimes scenes –even held Mengele’s bones in his hands. In the book, Marwell meticulously examines all the minute details of Mengele’s life and career.

Join us for an in-depth presentation, discussion and Q&A with Marwell as he addresses several themes of the book, myths of Mengele and unheard stories.
