Genocide Awareness & Prevention Month Program: If Not Now, When? The Plight of the Rohingya
Thursday, April 29, 1:00 pm Central Time
Community Partners: Syrian Community Network; Chicago Refugee Coalition; GirlForward; EIHR; BAGI
The Rohingya have faced severe discrimination and persecution by the Burmese government for decades. They have been denied their rights of citizenship, displaced, and suffered mass atrocities, confirming irrefutable evidence that genocide is being committed against them. In response to the growing Rohingya refugee community in Chicago, Nasir Zakaria built the Rohingya Culture Center of Chicago to provide social services and help refugees with assimilation and resettlement.
Join Nasir Zakaria, Director of the Rohingya Culture Center of Chicago, Abdul Jabbar Amanullah, Case Manager of the Rohingya Cultural Center, and Jessica Hulten, Assistant Manager of Education, Illinois Holocaust Museum, as they discuss the history and current situation in Burma, the work being done in Chicago to aid Rohingya refugees, and what we can do to help.
