They Shall Be Counted:  The Theresienstadt Ghetto Art of Erich Lichtblau-Leskly

Thursday, November 21, 2019, 6:30 – 8:30pm

Community Partner: Chicago Toy & Game Group

They Shall Be Counted is an illustrated diary created by Erich Lichtblau-Leskly. While in Theresienstadt, he drew and painted depictions of ghetto life, a moving testament to the daily lives of residents. Join us as we open this gallery with Illinois Holocaust Museum Chief Curator of Collections and Exhibitions, Arielle Weininger, who will share insights into Lichtblau-Leskly’s illustrations.

The opening program will also include a conversation with Holocaust survivor and toy inventor Ivan Moscovich, another powerful example of how art and imagination serve as a form of resistance.
