A mandatory training for volunteers; you must attend ONE of these sessions. (March 23rd, April 20th, or April 21st.) You do not need to attend all 3 dates, but please register for the one that works best for you.
These trainings will take place at E360 in downtown Chicago (360 N. State St.) on the 4th floor. Trainings will begin at 1 p.m. and last for 60-90 minutes.
If getting to E360 is an impossibility, or if none of the aforementioned dates work for you, we will be holding additional session options in Skokie when we reopen. Dates TBD.
Speaking for Understanding is an interactive training that will help you communicate more clearly with museum patrons. In this 1.5 hour session, we’ll use videos, real-life examples, and role-playing activities to model effective communication strategies.
Through this training, you will learn:
- What plain language is and how it applies to spoken communication
- How to center your audience in spoken communication
- Tips for explaining complex ideas more simply
- A few ways to check for understanding
