Volunteer Learning Series with the Education Team: German Youth Resistance
This year marked the 82nd anniversary of the execution of members of the White Rose resistance group. While perhaps the most well-known of the German resistance groups, there were others created and led by young people in Germany, including Edelweiss Pirates and Swing Youth. Learning about youth and student-led resistance counters misperceptions that the Nazi regime brainwashed German young people who had no choice but to conform, and instead demonstrates the agency and power they truly had. This workshop will use primary source documents to examine the resistance of young people in Nazi Germany.
This session will be at Am Shalom synagogue at 840 Vernon Ave., Glencoe, IL 60022, and will begin at 10 a.m. and will go through 12 p.m. Kosher refreshments will be provided.
