Volunteer Learning Series with the Education Team: The Holocaust in Denmark
Countless Danish citizens banded together in one of the largest organized resistance efforts of the Holocaust. Tipped off that Germany planned to deport Denmark’s Jewish population, Danish resisters successfully ferried over 7,000 Danish Jews to safety in Sweden. Illinois Holocaust Museum has partnered with author Ralph Shayne, son of a Danish survivor of the evacuations, to publish Hour of Need: The Daring Escape of the Danish Jews during World War II, a graphic novel telling this inspiring story of resistance and survival. In this session, volunteers explore the factors that led to widespread resistance in Denmark.
This session will be at Am Shalom synagogue at 840 Vernon Ave., Glencoe, IL 60022, and will begin at 10 a.m. and will go through 12 p.m. Kosher refreshments will be provided.
